A well-known CCTV broadcaster’s recent call for China to kick out “foreign trash” on microblog has caused great controversy among foreigners in China.
一位央视知名主持人近日在微博上呼吁政府清理“洋垃圾”，该言论在旅华外国人群体中引发强烈争议。
Yang Rui, who hosts Dialogue, an English-language show on CCTV News, put a post on Sina Weibo last Wednesday, in which he referred to some foreigners in China as "trash", "spies", "traffickers" and "shrews". He said those people couldn’t find jobs in the United States or Europe, so they came to China to take money and engage themselves in human trafficking and illegal immigration.
上周三，央视英语新闻频道《对话》节目主持人杨锐在新浪发表微博，将某些在中国的外国人称为“洋垃圾”、“间谍”、“蛇头”、“洋泼妇”。他说，这些人在欧美找不到工作，跑到中国圈钱，还从事贩卖人口和鼓励非法移民的买卖。
"These vicious lies do not represent the vast majority of foreign citizens in China. Dialogue is a show that is meant to be about intercultural exchange. It is extremely insulting that its host would propagate such racist, hateful speech," Custer wrote on Weibo.
卡斯特尔在微博上写道："这些恶毒的谎言绝不代表大多数在华外国人。《对话》是一个文化交流节目，杨锐作为主持人说出这种煽动种族仇恨的话，是对在华外国人的极大侮辱。
" He ended by urging the government to "kick out those who demonize China".

In response, Charlie Custer, a blogger from the US, launched an online campaign calling for the Dialogue host to be fired.

Yang later acknowledged to Guardian, an English newspaper, that his wording was very strong and incompatible with his image as host of a professional talk show.
杨锐事后向英国《卫报》承认，自己用词激烈，不符合一个专业对话节目主持人的形象。
"Ninety-five to 98% of foreigners are good people, well educated and abide by our laws. I am only talking about the bad guys," he added.
他还说：“百分之九十五到九十八的外国人都是好人，受过良好的教育，遵守我们的法律，我说的是那些坏人。”
A publicity officer for CCTV said that Yang is a very experienced and senior host, and the opinions he expressed on Weibo were his own.
